Welcome to Island Observations, a site exploring the natural history of Deer Isle, Maine. It’s a new site, launched in July of 2025, that will accrue value over time. I hope to keep track of the things I see and hear as I hike around the island, paying attention to the complex web of organisms, climate and geology that make this place unique.
